Believe it or not, improving your bathroom isn't a simple task. You have to choose the right professionals involved, make sure the products used meet standards and rules, and that the designs are to your liking.

The format and placement of everything within the bathroom are important to keep in mind. This makes the bathroom aesthetically-pleasing and greatly useful to the home's inhabitants.

Here are six tips to making sure your bathroom is improved and works perfectly:

1. Purchase Compliant Products

It can be excited to choose which bathroom fixtures you want to purchase and install. It is important to look at certain factors besides aesthetics. Once you try out the fixtures, you should check to see if they follow Australian regulations. Energy and safety are important to note and with the number of imported products coming in, it's hard to find out if there are any issues involved. Be sure to discuss this with tradespeople to make sure they know compliance and fulfill the standards before starting the project.

2. Waterproof Bathroom

One of the top reasons why bathrooms become defective is the lack of waterproofing techniques used to protect the newly-renovated area. Professional trade organizations in Australia are pushing for waterproofing awareness and usage. According to Nathanael Forster of The Australian Master Tilers Association, a certified tradesman or tradeswoman should have undergone proper training and should waterproof under the AS 3740-2010 standard of waterproofing.

3. Do Not Invest Too Much

Do not spend too much money for a bathroom that you are selling or simply trying to entice future owners. Bathroom remodeling is easy to spend too much on and expensive because of the different types of tradespeople that work on certain aspects of the bathroom. The bathroom should blend with other parts of the home without overdoing it.

4. Employ Certified Tradespeople

Plumbers, electricians, and tile setters are examples of tradespeople that may work on your bathroom. Hire licensed workers to build, install, and fit whatever it is you need. Check to make sure they are registered to complete these services. By taking the time to research and interview, you can protect your financial and legal statuses. They should have the necessary qualifications and meet trades and government standards.

5. Consider the Possibility of Asbestos

Ceilings, floors, and walls, are common places where asbestos can be seen, including in homes constructed before the mid-1980s. Talk to your contractor or interior designer about possible asbestos. Hire a professional in asbestos removal.

6. Create a Remodeling Plan

Carefully make a schedule for your renovation needs. This allows you to stay within budget and plan everything with precision. For example, if you need to alter the structure of the bathroom, look into getting a building permit. This includes removing walls, incorporating windows, and altering the sink or toilet. Purchasing and installing bathroom fixtures may cause additional time to be needed. These things can take months, so it is best to create a useful a table of events and goals to be accomplished.
